The violence is extremely gut-wrenching and no doubt makes this film one of the most violent films I have ever seen. There are only one or two scenes free of violence and peril. It is extremely gory and graphic and not for anyone under 18. I do not understand, though, why this film passed for an R rating. After all, it was made in 2013, with more advanced technology and special effects, when the original was made in 1981. This film, in my opinion, is more violent than its 1981 predecessor.
